Advisor Award to Rowland
|
University Division advisor Renee Rowland has been awarded the Outstanding Indiana Advisor Award for 2006 sponsored by Indiana Academic Advising Network (IAAN) which is affiliated with National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). The award was created to recognize the importance of academic advising at colleges and universities in Indiana. She will be presented with the award at the IAAN State Conference on May 12. Stephanie Hamington, director of the University Division, nominated Rowland based on her having met criteria set by IAAN, including demonstration of a professional attitude toward advisees; effective interpersonal skills; availability to advisees; and evidence of active involvement in helping students achieve career and academic goals. Rowland composed an advising philosophy statement as part of the award process. In it, she wrote, “By developing a relationship and being knowledgeable of campus services, the advisor has the unique opportunity of forging a partnership with students, which enables the student to identify and attain educational goals. The more comfortable advisees feel with their advisor, the easier it is for them to honestly discuss various issues or concerns.” Dr. Linda L. M. Bennett, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said, “Renee has made a tremendous contribution to quality advising on USI's campus and her good work is deeply appreciated. This award just confirms what we already know.” |
