Living on campus is desirable
|
Residence life can streamline your transition to the University of Southern Indiana. You can live in an environment where learning is a priority and staying to complete a degree is encouraged by your friends. The students who live on campus tap into the pulse of campus life. You’ll be part of a growing union of students who consider studying, learning, and socializing at USI a privilege because they can play such a prominent role in the unfolding of a great institution. Seldom do you get to live among your peers. During the undergraduate years, your peer group is a potent source of influence on your growth and development. Groups often form by area of interest or campus housing location. USI students who reside in residence halls form relationships with other students by floor, academic interest, international interest, future goals, and more. Opportunities exist to become involved in Residence Life as a resident assistant or a member of the Judicial Board or the Student Housing Association. Living on campus is desirable. Convenience is top reason. Community living offers an added infusion of academic energy in the residence halls. It creates an environment where study and learning expand beyond traditional classroom walls. The resident community, which supports the learning process that is important at the University of Southern Indiana, strives to give students a sense of comfort, safety, and well-being. These are some of the conveniences you can experience by living on campus— • No arguments over the rent Each student is responsible for his or her own rent payment. No one is expected to pick up the slack if a roommate transfers or is late paying the rent. • Interaction with a diverse population; this contact can help dispel any isolated feeling you experience. Students who live on campus can interact with a variety of smart and talented people. The student population includes young adults from many different economic, social, religious, and cultural backgrounds. • Less reliance on a car and less parking hassles Each suite has parking bays, and freshmen can have cars on campus. However, academic buildings are in walking distance along with a variety of food services, fitness and recreation center, intramural fields, and a Student Development Office that offers a host of student activities. A bus service operates to transport students to and from the neighborhoods in the apartment complex on campus. • Outdoor space for recreation Sand volleyball courts, outdoor basketball courts, disc golf course, intramural fields, and walking areas close to areas of natural beauty and landscaped flowering areas provide outdoor recreational space for students. Living on campus is desirable. Suites offer privacy. The residence hall suites are attractive to first-year students. They are designed as four-person suites with two bedrooms and two baths. The semi-private bathrooms get a thumbs-up response from residents as the design of the suites follows a national trend among college students for privacy. To fit today’s students, the living space matches the habits and study arrangements of multitasking students. Multitasking describes the way college students get things done. They compose reports on the computer while instant messaging over the Internet while doing research on the Web while flipping through TV channels using the remote. In the residence halls, relaxed discussion and study areas coexist with private or group spaces with computers and other equipment.
