“THREADS Thursdays” to kick off Diversity Awareness Month
|
In the month of September, the University’s diversity initiative, THREADS (Teaching Human Respect and Encouraging Action Diversity Series) will hold "THREADS Thursdays" under the University Conference Center (the bridge). The event, with refreshments and entertainment, is designed to make students aware of the diversity initiative and how they can get involved. September, Diversity Awareness Month, is the first in a series of THREADS themes that will carry through the 2006-07 academic year. At the committee’s first meeting in late July, October was chosen as Hispanic Heritage Month and November, Religious Awareness Month. Current committee members are Herman E. Thomas Jr., program director in the Multicultural Center, Wendy Knipe Bredhold, writer in News and Information Services, Christine Hoehn, director of Religious Life, Pamela Hopson, director of the Multicultural Center, Kristine Meier, program coordinator in International Programs and Services, Jessica MacLeod, instructor in nursing, Vicki Oshodi, human resources generalist, and Phillip Parker, director of Career Services and Placement. The next meeting is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, in the Multicultural Center. The committee is always seeking new members. Call Thomas at 812/465-7188 for more information. THREADS encourages intentional diversity programming throughout the University community through a coordinated diversity calendar. The THREADS calendar reflect various topics in diversity such as: ability, class, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, sexual identity, etc. It exclusively promotes diversity programs, activities, and events sponsored by campus departments and student organizations. If your department or student organization is planning an event THREADS might co-sponsor, contact Thomas at 812/465-7188. |
