DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC FLOW SURVEY
|
Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel announced today that the City of Evansville is seeking input from its residents about the changes they want to see to improve traffic flow into and around downtown Evansville. "As we seek to make our downtown a dynamic, thriving destination for residents, workers, and visitors, we must make it easier to get here and more navigable once people arrive," he said. "We hope people respond to our call for suggestions and look forward to tranforming those ideas into tangible projects that highlight the attractions already present and those coming to Downtown Evansville." The City, through the Downtown Implementation Committee and in conjunction with Downtown Evansville Inc. and the University of Southern Indiana's Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, put together the survey to solicit feedback. Katherine A. Draughon, director of Institutional Research and Assessment, and Joe Wingo, Institutional Research associate, worked with Mick Conati, director of Downtown Evansville Inc. The partnership was facilitated by Susan Ellspermann, director of USI’s Center for Applied Research and Development. The survey period will end Friday, August 25. Two public forums have been planned for residents and visitors to give their suggestions in person: - 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, Browning Events Room B, Central Library. - 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 24, Executive Inn Crystal Room. "Public input is critical to the success of this project," Conati said. "The information gathered from this survey and the public forums will not only help us with this traffic study, but it also will help us with future downtown projects." The Downtown Implementation Committee was formed to clarify the recommendations of the 2001 Downtown Master Plan and ensure there is necessary support for implementation.
