Races, food, prizes at Fun Fest
|
An obstacle course, races*, a portable climbing wall, and other fun activities will be open to USI students in two two-hour sessions on Wednesday, August 30 as part of 2006 Welcome Week, a program to welcome new and returning students to the USI campus. Fall semester started Monday, August 28. The Welcome Fun Fest, sponsored by the Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness Department, will begin at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the Recreation and Fitness Center to introduce USI students to the recreational programs. Scott Wood, program coordinator, said, “Local retailers and restaurants have supplied hundreds of prizes for the event including jewelry, t-shirts, blankets, free oil changes, gift certificates, and more. Free food will be available during both sessions.” The Recreation and Fitness Center staff will distribute events calendars with intramural schedules, plus information about the services the center offers. The event is open to USI students and USI employees and their families. *Bungee Run You can experience bungee jumping horizontally in the bungee run. Participants wear upper body harnesses which are connected to the inflatable bungee run with a bungee cord, much like a large rubber band. The participants race down their own lane of the bungee run, place a baton as far down the dividing center as possible before the bungee cord springs them backward. The farther you go forward along the bungee run, the greater the spring backward. Typhoon tycoon Participants uses quick reflexes to grab certificates that blow through the inflatable booth. Each certificate lists a prize. |
