Staff Council officers elected
 Senior administrative assistant Chris Jines, Registrar’s Office, has been elected chair of the Staff Council for the 2006-07 academic year. Other officers will be David O’Grady, library assistant, and Angela Torres, senior administrative assistant, College of Liberal Arts. Three committees operate in the council. Deanna Engler, senior library assistant, is chair of economic benefits committee. Yvonne Floyd, senior administrative assistant in Office of Athletics, and Sara Rhoades, senior administrative assistant, Human Resources, head the employee relations committee. Linda Lefler, senior administrative assistant, Human Resources, is chair of the nominating committee. Council representatives, serving two-year terms, are Jeri Broshears, Student Development; Robert Hudson, Human Resources; Rene Koressel, Career Services; Frank Nagy, Physical Plant; Lisa Staples, Department of Biology; Virginia Thomas, Department of Art, Music and Theatre; Angela Torres, and Julie Weinzapfel, Procurement and Distribution Services. Representatives serving the second year of a two-year term are Karen Anderson, Physical Plant; Gail Cummings, College of Nursing and Health Professions; Deanna Engler, Rice Library; Floyd; Jines; Linda Lefler, Human Resources; David O’Grady, Rice Library; Bea Purcell, Office of Admission; Sara Rhoades; and Lois Stevens, Physical Activities Center. Staff Council is an elected group of University employees who represent USI support staff. Officially formed in 1990, the organization was established to provide support to the University and its employees by enhancing the work environment of the support staff; fostering staff involvement in University matters; and upholding and strengthening the mission of the University. Staff Council makes the support staff budget presentation at the annual budget hearings. Over the years, Staff Council has provided support or sponsored the following: • Funeral leave policy • Fall and spring staff meetings • Merit pay in annual salary increases • Summer employee picnic • Student worker appreciation day • University Savings Incentive Discount Program • The Giving Tree • Archibald Eagle’s Food Closet/Food Drives Staff Council meetings are open to all members of the University community.
