Success Series workshops

Academic Skills and the University Division Advising are sponsoring the following Success Series workshops in October. These 30-minute interactive workshops are free and open to faculty, staff, and students. Note that the workshops are held at various times and in various rooms. • Chill Out! 4-4:30 p.m. October 3 and October 25, Education Center Room 1103. Life is stressful; college life is really stressful. Come to this workshop to learn how to “chill out.” Presented by Amber Hughes, University Division advisor. • Yes, You Can Beat the Odds! 3-3:30 p.m. October 4 and 4-4:30 p.m. October 12, Education Center Room 1102. Improve your test taking performance by learning tips for objective tests, essays and more. Presented by Dr. Nils Johansen, University Division advisor. • Decoding Math Word Problems, 4-4:30 p.m. October 5 and October 18, Education Center Room 1103. Gain confidence using techniques that will help you decode story problems. Presented by Camilla Swain, OPTIONS advisor, University Division. • Don’t Delay!: Anti-Procrastination Techniques, 3-3:30 p.m. October 10, Education Center Room 1102. If you procrastinate, this session will give you techniques for prioritizing and completing your academic workload. Presented by Deanna Odney, writing specialist, Academic Skills. • M.U.R.D.E.R. your Midterms, 3-3:30 p.m. October 11, Education Center Room 1102. Murder your midterms, or any test, with this six-step study strategy. Presented by Mark Razor, University Division advisor. • Improving Reading Speed, 3-3:30 p.m. October 19, Education Center Room 1102; and 4-4:30 p.m. October 24, Education Center Room 1103. Attend this interactive workshop to assess your current reading speed, learn to break bad habits, and apply new reading strategies to become an efficient and flexible reader. Presented by Jann Hickey, learning specialist in Academic Skills. • Exploring Careers, 3-3:30 p.m. October 26, Education Center Room 1102. This workshop will show you how to start exploring your interests, abilities and work values. You will also obtain information on how to learn about various careers. Attendees will receive their own personal password to access an on-line career exploration program. Presented by Stephanie Hamington, director, University Division.
