USI Children’s Center wins quality award
|
The USI Children’s Center was honored by 4C of Southern Indiana, a nonprofit organization that provides childcare resources, referrals, and quality improvement programs to 11 southwestern Indiana counties in September. The center received an award in recognition of its accreditation status with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and its designation as a Level 4 on 4C’s Paths to Quality rating system. Level 4 is the highest rating a center can receive. The USI Children’s Center has maintained its NAEYC accreditation for five years and its Level 4 designation since Paths to Quality began last year. Only three childcare centers and eight home-based childcare centers within their region received the designation. Pam Buschkill, program coordinator for the Center, said, “NAEYC accreditation and Paths to Quality both require a center to meet standards that far exceed the regular state licensing requirements. Curriculum, health and safety, staffing, physical environment, management, and family involvement are several of the areas that are assessed. The rating validates the hard work that the staff contributes on a daily basis, and the program is recognized for quality in the field of early childhood education.” According to the Evansville Courier and Press, about 100 childcare providers from the region attended the event. Childcare centers and ratings are listed on the 4C of Southern Indiana Web site. |
