Outstanding Accounting Educator in College of Business

Jeanette Maier-Lytle, instructor in accounting at the University of Southern Indiana, has been named 2006 Outstanding Accounting Educator by the Indiana CPA Society. She was recognized November 3 at Union Station in Indianapolis during the organization’s CPA Celebration. The annual event also honors successful CPA exam candidates, INCPAS leadership, winners of the annual INCPAS Case Study Competition for college students, and other award winners. Maier-Lytle has been the coach for the USI student accounting team since 2004. The team has placed first for three straight years in the INCPAS Case Study Competition for accounting students at universities throughout the state. The final round of this year's competition was held yesterday in Indianapolis prior to the awards celebration. Indiana CPA Society Chairman Ben Kimmerling, said, “The Indiana CPA Society selects an Outstanding Accounting Educator each year. The award is designed to recognize an individual who has made significant contributions to accounting education and the CPA profession. The society’s Awards Selection Committee evaluates excellence in classroom teaching, motivating students, and active involvement in professional activities when choosing the recipient. Nominations are sought from all Indiana colleges and universities with accounting departments. Jeanette was among nearly a dozen candidates for the 2006 award and is a very deserving recipient. We congratulate Jeannette on this great honor.” A USI accounting graduate, Maier-Lytle joined the College of Business faculty in 1997. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1988 and completed a master’s in business administration at USI in 1995. She was associated with American General Finance in Evansville from 1988-89 and again from 1994-97 and worked in various accounting positions for Alcan Ingot in Henderson, Kentucky, from 1989 until 1994. Since joining the USI College of Business faculty, she has completed faculty internships at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and at American General Finance. In her teaching, Maier-Lytle encourages students to develop their potential through participation in extracurricular and professional development activities. She invites accounting practitioners into the classroom to make presentations and schedules plant tours to introduce students to a variety of work settings. Maier-Lytle is a certified public accountant and a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society. She serves on the board of The Literacy Center in Evansville and is treasurer of the Parent-Teachers Organization at Lynnville Elementary School in Lynnville, Indiana. With fellow USI College of Business faculty members, she has co-authored articles in professional publications, including The Journal of Learning in Higher Education, National Public Accountant, Journal of Accounting World, and Health Progress. She and her husband Gary Joe Lytle live in Lynnville with their three sons: Adam, Alex, and Austin. Two other USI accounting faculty members have received the Outstanding Accounting Educator award from INCPAS. Dr. Daniel E. Wade, professor of accounting, received the honor in 1996. Dr. Craig R. Ehlen, professor of accounting, was recognized in 2001. |
