Three of the area’s gospel choirs will perform in a “Gospel Explosion” at 6 p.m. Saturday, November 18, in Forum I. The show is part of THREADS Religious Awareness Month. THREADS (Teaching Human Respect and Encouraging Action Diversity Series) is a campus-wide diversity initiative of the Multicultural Center to encourage intentional diversity programming throughout the USI community. Ebony Majestic, Indiana State University’s gospel choir; Designed by Grace, the USI gospel choir; and the Zion Baptist Church Children’s Choir will perform at the 2006 Gospel Explosion. Ebony Majestic, a choir of 50 men and women, performs for churches, schools, and civic organizations throughout the midwest. They were organized in 1972 and are part of the African American Cultural Center at ISU, in Terre Haute. Notable performances by the choir include a joint concert with the Famed Fisk University Concert Choir and Jubilee Singers held at the University in Nashville, and the Governor's Prayer Breakfast held at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Designed by Grace, the USI gospel choir, is a cooperative program of the Multicultural Center and the College of Liberal Arts. The choir performs a variety of music including spirituals and hymns.
