USI Jazz Ensemble to perform at local restaurant
|
The USI Jazz Ensemble and its director, David Rodenberg, will perform from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday, December 15, at the Deerhead Sidewalk Café at 222 East Columbia Street. Created in 2001, the group’s repertory includes familiar jazz standards as well as more progressive styles. At the Deerhead, members will perform in small group combos and as the full 15-piece ensemble. “My wife Shawna will sing with the smaller combo group,” Rodenberg said, “and there may be some other special guests.” Rodenberg joined the University in fall 2005. An instructor in Liberal Arts, he currently teaches Introduction to Music and will teach a new course, History of Jazz, in fall 2007. That semester, the current Department of Art, Music, and Theatre will split into two separate departments: the Department of Art and the Department of Performing Arts, which will include the music and theatre programs. Anyone who is interested in playing with the Jazz Ensemble should contact Rodenberg or Daniel Craig, director of music, or go to the Hamilton Music Studio in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center from 11 to 11:50 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday during the first week of spring 2007. In spring 2007, the USI Jazz Ensemble is scheduled to perform at a Special Olympics fundraiser at Casino Aztar and the Alumni Homecoming Party. The band also performs periodically in the University Center. For more information about the USI Jazz Ensemble, click here. |
