USI Theatre presents first-ever USI Theatre Showcase
|
USI Theatre presents its first-ever USI Theatre Showcase on Saturday, January 20 at the Mallette Studio Theatre in the Liberal Arts Center at the University of Southern Indiana. Students from all areas of the theatre program will present their best work. Beginning at 7 p.m., design and production students will present their digital portfolios. According to Shan Jensen, assistant professor of theatre, the portfolios will reflect the work of student scenic, lighting, costume and sound designers as well as technical directors. Jensen said, “Our students in design and production are very talented and tend to thrive in the world of professional theatre after graduation. This is an opportunity for them to show off their work, and it is an opportunity for our audience to learn more about the design aspect of theatre.” Beginning at 8 p.m., acting and musical theatre students will perform scenes, songs and monologues. According to Lenny Leibowitz, assistant professor of theatre, students were selected to participate based on the quality of their work in the classroom and in performance. He said, “I think this will be a great evening of theatre because it will be so diverse. Our audience will have a chance to see students’ work in everything from choreography to Chekhov. It should be a wonderful inside view of the range of work our students do in preparation for careers in the professional theatre.” All tickets for the performance are $12.
