Jazz Night event is part of Black History Month celebration

For the second year in a row, the USI Black Alumni Society is hosting “An Evening of Jazz” at The Pub. This year, the guest performer is Rob White, a jazz saxophonist from Indianapolis. White has opened for national recording stars Freddie Jackson and Marion Meadows. He plays soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone and writes, arranges, and performs his own music. He recently performed at the Mayor’s breakfast in Indianapolis. "An Evening of Jazz" will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, February 24. Light refreshments will be served. A cash bar will be available. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Proceeds benefit the USI Black Alumni Scholarship Fund. Contact Alumni & Volunteer Services: 812/464-1928. Here are more USI events offered during Black History Month: February 14-17 and 21-25: USI Theatre production of “A Raisin in the Sun” directed by Elliot Wasserman, director of theatre. This was the first play written by an African American woman to be produced on Broadway. Performance times are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. at USI Theatre at 3001 Igleheart Avenue. There is one Sunday matinee on February 25 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors 60 and over, and $4 for USI students. February 19: Black Student Union Week Kick Off; “Help Me, Help You, Help Us Together,” presented by Herman Thomas Jr., program advisor for the Multicultural Center, 6 p.m., Forum I, Wright Administration Building.
