The Indiana Court of Appeals will hear an oral argument in Mitchell Auditorium of the Health Professions Center at USI at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2007. Sergio Camps v. the State of Indiana is the case before the judges. According to the synopsis, this is an interlocutory appeal of the trial court's denial of appellant Sergio Campos' Motion to Suppress. Appellant was charged with dealing in cocaine, a Class A felony. Appellant filed a Motion to Suppress raising issues related to the traffic stop, vehicle search, and recorded conversations by the police. A hearing was held and the Motion to Suppress was denied. Michael P. Barnes, Melissa S. May, and Nancy H. Vaidik are the judges who will hear the oral argument. The Indiana Court of Appeals is the state’s second-highest court. It reviews appeals from trial court decisions; a decision of the Indiana Court of Appeals is final unless granted further review by the Indiana Supreme Court. Due to the Code of Judicial Conduct, the judges will not be able to answer any specific questions about the case, but can respond to general inquiries about the legal system. The public is encouraged to attend. Normal courtroom rules of decorum will apply. |
