Wrestling Eagles place in national tournament

The second-year USI wrestling team placed third in the North Central Conference Championship and qualified 10 students for the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) National Tournament, held March 8-10 in Garland, Texas.

Team members Brian Bittner, Joe Hillenbrand, Sean Bresher, Jeff Ausenbaugh, Ryan Lux, Chad Cook, Mike Coughlin, John Stanfield, Brandon Pinkston, and David Plummer qualified for the NCWA National Tournament, where they placed eighth out of 67 teams. There are over 120 teams in the NCWA.

The team’s first ever All-Americans are Hillenbrand and Coughlin, who each placed eighth in their classes, and Pinkston, who placed third.

“It was an incredible team effort,” said Ausenbaugh, wrestling team coach. “We are very happy with the results.”
