Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center construction begins this summer
|
Construction of the Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center is planned to begin this summer. Design of the facility is by Sarah Schuler of Veazey Parrott Durkin and Shoulders Architects and is nearing completion. The 5,000 square feet addition to the Liberal Arts Center will be located on the lower level ground level with a view of Reflection Lake. The McCutchan Art Center will feature three exhibition areas with movable wall partitions allowing the galleries to be utilized as one large display area or a combination of two or three galleries. An entry gallery is planned to serve as an additional display area and serve as a reception and foyer area for opening events. A connecting corridor from the west entry will provide passage to the Liberal Arts Center. For years the art faculty has desired to have a facility to present professional exhibitions rather than using other facilities on campus that are not properly suited for the exhibitions. The McCutchan Art Center will provide the appropriate space and accommodations for exhibits. The gallery will allow shows to be held, including the Student Art Exhibition, student and faculty exhibitions, visiting artist exhibitions, traveling exhibitions, and senior art exhibitions. The construction of the Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center is due in large part by the generous gift of Kenneth P. McCutchan. Galleries in the art center will be named the Palmina F. and Stephen S. Pace Art Galleries. A portion of a recent $1.5 million gift of the Paces is establishing the galleries.
