USI Marketing Club announces winners of logo design contest
Andrew Eddmenson won a first place prize of $300 in the USI Marketing Club’s logo design contest. Prizes were awarded at a ceremony on April 5.The winning logo, which incorporates a target, banner, and globe, will be used to brand Marketing Club communications in the coming years. Eddmenson, a senior accounting and professional services major, said, “The target is supposed to represent the target goals, results, and audience that marketers are trying to reach. The banner represents one of many marketing techniques used to reach people. Finally, the globe indicates that marketing is used all around the world to reach people all around the world; in other words, marketing is global.” Andrea Wallace, a senior advertising and public relations major, placed second and was awarded $50. Kim Hoppenjans, a senior graphic design major, won the third place honor and was awarded $25. Marketing Club members felt that having a student-designed logo for the club would raise awareness of the benefits of joining and being active in student organizations. Julie Mehringer, vice president of the Marketing Club and a senior double major in marketing and advertising/public relations, said, "The logo contest was a great success. I'm so happy that we had so many entries. The winning logo will be a great representation of our club in the future." Faculty advisors for the Marketing Club are Dr. Beth Mott-Stenerson, assistant professor of marketing, and Dr. Mark McKnight, assistant professor of business communication. “Julie and Kevin (Waters, president of the club and a senior marketing major) and other club officers and members worked really hard to host this contest and ensure its success,” Mott-Sternson said. “Their professional efforts resulted in 17 different designs being submitted for the contest. “This logo contest is the kind of club activity that needs to be encouraged and facilitated at all levels of the University, as it provides a means for students to round out their professional experience before graduation, while serving the needs of the membership of the club. In short, the logo contest hosted by the USI Marketing Club provided a win-win situation for all of the students involved.” Students interested in joining the Marketing Club should contact Mehringer for more information. |
