Camp Eagle develops student leaders
|
Camp Eagle, a chance for incoming student leaders to participate in challenging outdoor exercises, team-building activities, educational sessions, and opportunities to learn the history and traditions of USI, is June 15-17. Camp Eagle is open to 45 first-year students with proven high school leadership experience. These students will develop their leadership skills and build friendships with other rising student leaders while enjoying a low-ropes challenge course, a service learning project, a personality inventory, diversity and leadership activities, and more. Student Development Programs is offering the program for its second year. It is open to incoming freshmen who identified themselves as high school student leaders. Participation encourages new students to continue their involvement in service, student activities, and student organizations at USI. David Duvall, assistant director of Student Development Programs, said, “We want these new students to get acclimated to the University and feel that they are a part of it. If they feel a connection to the University they are more likely to finish their degrees here and be involved in furthering the University." Camp Eagle participants will be split up into three “flocks” in which they form bonds and friendships with other new students. The flocks are led by current USI “Eagle Leaders.” Click here to view photos and biographical information about these student leaders. For more information, go to the Camp Eagle Web site. |
