|
Calling all University of Southern Indiana students! Have you ever tossed around an idea for a new business, product, or service? Plan to submit your entrepreneurial thinking in the College of Business’ second annual Business Idea Competition. Students may submit their innovative ideas beginning Thursday, September 27, 2007 and no later than Thursday, October 18, 2007. All majors are eligible to submit an entry. Sixteen entries were submitted last year. To enter, students answer three questions in a one-page submission. The questions are: “What is the idea?” “Why do you think your idea is better than other ideas?” “Who will be served by your product, service, or business? By early November, judges will determine the finalists, each of whom will make a brief presentation before a panel of judges. Winners will receive prizes. The competition will be a focus of the College of Business celebration of Indiana Entrepreneurship Week (November 5-9), sponsored by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. USI accounting student Sheri Risner entered the competition last year with a household pantry inventory system, and she placed third in the campus competition. At the statewide level, her idea for Pantry Partner won first place in competition with more than 400 students from 21 universities throughout Indiana. She took home the top prize of $500. She and USI student Mark Kurvach were among the 10 finalists chosen to present their entrepreneurial ideas to a judging panel of four venture capitalists.
