University choir members announced
|
University of Southern Indiana’s Performing Arts Department is announcing the members of two choral groups, the USI Chamber Choir and the Women’s Choir. Established in 1996, the USI Chamber Choir was created from a combination of the USI Mid-America Singers and Band and the USI Madrigal Singers Show Choir. The USI Chamber Choir in 2001 became the sole mixed voice ensemble at USI. Made up of students from all disciplines, the USI Chamber Choir promotes performances of choral music in an artistic setting including medieval carols, secular pieces, and contemporary settings of liturgical and secular choral music. The USI Chamber Choir produces the USI Madrigal Feaste in early December, prepares concerts for the University community, and represents the University in song throughout the United States and Europe. Daniel Craig, assistant professor of music, has been director for 17 years. In 2002, the Chamber Choir’s Ireland concert tour included performances in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, the Augustinian Order of Limerick, and St. Maelruains Church of Ireland in Tallaght. The Chamber Choir returned to Ireland in 2004 with concerts in Cork, Limerick, and Galway to sponsor local Irish charities. In 2008, the Chamber Choir will return to Ireland to perform in the Sean-nos Project, a research and composition project produced by Craig during a recent sabbatical.
