This year’s Gospel Explosion! will include a special guest performance by gospel singer Shervonne Wells. The Multicultural Center’s annual event featuring the USI gospel choir, Designed by Grace, and other area gospel groups, will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, November 17, in Forum I in the Wright Administration Building.

Since 1993, Wells has been a member of the Kurt Carr Singers, with whom she has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Italy, Japan, Bermuda, Barbados, and Jamaica. The Stellar Award-winning group has toured with gospel greats including Kirk Franklin and Fred Hammond and the Commissioned. The “One Church Tour” with Smokie Norful gave the Kurt Carr Singers the opportunity to minister to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Wells has recorded with Devo, Tim “Bishop” Brown, Baron Peeler, Norm Hutchins, the Inland Empire Mass Choir, the Kentucky First Jurisdictional COGIC Mass Choir, and along with her husband Bishop Kenneth Wells, the Riverside Mass Choir.

She has lent her voice to soundtracks (including “The Adventures of Pinocchio” with Stevie Wonder), trailers, television sitcoms, and award shows (Comedy Central Awards, the Miss America Pageant). She has appeared as guest soloist for the Reverend Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition. She has performed in several musical theatre productions and a film, “For The Sake of Love.”

For more information, call the USI Multicultural Center at 812/465-7188.
