Public hearing on property tax reform at USI December 10
|
The Indiana House Ways and Means Committee will conduct public hearings on the property tax reform plan of Governor Mitch Daniels at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 10 in Carter Hall D of the University Center at the USI. Chairman William Crawford (D-Indianapolis) is the primary author of House Bill 1001, which contains the governor’s proposal. “This is the most important legislation that the Indiana General Assembly will consider during the 2008 session,” Crawford said. “It is imperative that we give the people of Indiana every chance to examine the proposal in detail, and have ample opportunities to make their feelings known about it. In that light, I believe that we need to start having hearings on the legislation in the month of December, rather than wait until the House reconvenes in January,” he added. “It is my hope that the public will have a chance to attend one of these meetings and speak their minds on property tax reform in Indiana.” A public hearing was held in Indianapolis on December 3 and another will be held in Fort Wayne on January 9, 2008. |
