The community is invited to join USI students, faculty, and staff for “Super Thursday with Mark Shields and William Kristol,” an evening of incisive political commentary during this historic presidential primary season, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 28 in Carter Hall in the University Center at USI.

Kristol and Shields represent the breadth of thought on national issues and have decades of experience in the country’s most respected news outlets, in the White House, and on the campaign trail.

Mark Shields is a syndicated columnist and political analyst on PBS' "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer." He moderated CNN's "The Capital Gang" for 17 years. He was named the “wittiest political journalist in America” by The Wall Street Journal and deemed “a walking almanac of American politics” by The Washington Post. A former campaign manager, he reveals the little-known details of American politics, delivers a frontline perspective on the 2008 election, and clarifies for audiences the confusing political mayhem that often arises out of election-year politics.

William Kristol is editor of The Weekly Standard, a columnist for The New York Times, and a regular panelist on "FOX News Sunday." Kristol offers a true insider’s perspective on all the key players, translating his seven years inside the Reagan and Bush White House into current, incisive close-ups of what’s really going on as America moves toward the 2008 presidential election.

Dr. Linda Bennett, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at USI, will moderate the event. Dr. Bennett is a political scientist with expertise in presidential politics and political analysis.

Sponsored by the University Core Curriculum Lecture Series, the event is free and open to the public.
