Emerald Isle”
|
The USI Chamber Choir and Rowan Tree, a traditional Irish music group, will present “Songs from the Emerald Isle,” a concert of Irish songs and instrumental music, on Tuesday, March 18, in Rice Library’s second floor reading room. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The concert will feature eight original arrangements of Irish traditional songs set for chorus and Irish traditional instruments by Daniel Craig, director of the Chamber Choir and assistant professor of music. Craig also plays tin whistle and bodhran in Rowan Tree with Beth Reasoner (guitar), MaryAnne Mathews (dulcimer), and Christa Shipley and Elizabeth Kramer (fiddles). Rowan Tree will play sets of jigs, reels, hornpipes, and airs from Ireland, Scotland, and Nova Scotia. Craig collected the songs for “Songs from the Emerald Isle” during a 2007 sabbatical in Ireland. The USI Chamber Choir and Rowan Tree will take the concert on a tour of Ireland May 12-20, 2008. |
