Liberal Arts alumnus to present “From USI to Harvard”
The College of Liberal Arts Alumni in Residence Program this semester has broad appeal. The English Department is sponsoring the program and a free public lecture by Nathan Fry ’00, assistant director of Athletics at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.Entitled “From USI to Harvard: Nathan Fry, English Studies and the NCAA,” the program will be presented at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, in Kleymeyer Hall in the Liberal Arts Center. Fry will discuss how his college experience continues to inform his work at Harvard, with suggestions for students that will make them attractive job candidates. Students, faculty, and staff from throughout the University are encouraged to attend. Fry graduated from USI with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and a minor in business administration. He earned a master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating in the top of his class. He has been with Harvard University for five years. At Harvard, Fry oversees the NCAA compliance program and the student-athlete development program and supervises 10 varsity sports. He is the administrative liaison for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and chair of the Athletics Department’s policy and hazing committees, and serves as a member of the college’s Board of Freshman Advisers, freshman orientation committee, and student advisory board. He was the Athletics Department’s 2005 recipient of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences Merit award, honoring outstanding performance. Fry and his wife Michele live in Harvard Yard and are Freshman Proctors (residential advisers with an academic advising role) for 30 freshmen.
