Hoosier State Press Association counsel will discuss public access laws
|
Stephen Key, general counsel for the Hoosier State Press Association, will present “What You Don’t Know About Public Access Laws Can Hurt You,” a discussion of open records and meetings in Indiana, at 6 p.m. Monday, April 21, at USI. The event, sponsored by the USI chapter of the Society for Professional Journalists, will be held in the Liberal Arts Center, Room 2030 during the senior-level journalism course Reporting Public Affairs taught by Gary Blackburn, instructor in journalism. Journalists, city and county attorneys, public advocates, public officials, and the general public are invited to attend. The Hoosier State Press Association (HSPA) serves approximately 175 paid-subscription newspapers in Indiana, offering advice on legal questions on a wide range of topics, but predominately concerning access to information. Key represents the HSPA before the Indiana General Assembly, lobbying for the public’s freedom of information rights and the interests of the Indiana newspaper industry. Prior to his earning his law degree from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis, Key worked in the newspaper business for 13 years. He was managing editor of the Noblesville Daily Ledger and assistant news editor of the Daily Journal in Franklin. |
