Road work starting Wednesday will not close Bent Twig Lane - yet
|
The first phase of the road construction project on campus will begin Wednesday, July 30, when contractor Blankenberger Brothers starts work on Bent Twig Lane near Administrative Services Annex North. The road will be routed toward Reflection Lake in preparation for construction of the new Business and Engineering Center. Bent Twig will remain open for the time being, but USI students and employees will notice an increase in truck traffic in the area. Fred Kalvelage, USI construction manager, said, “There will be heavy traffic, but it’s not something people can’t work around.” Bent Twig south of the University Center pay lot will be closed in mid-August for up to two months. Previously it was reported that the road would be closed for about two weeks. When Bent Twig closes, Clarke Lane/Bent Twig – now a one-way road from the north end of University Boulevard to the UC pay lot – will be rerouted to a two-way road leading back to University Parkway. Please note that construction schedules are contingent on many variables. “It’s going to change as we progress,” Kalvelage said. Phase 1B of the road construction project will begin in spring 2009, when a roundabout will be constructed at the entrance to campus at Clarke Lane and University Boulevard, and Clarke Lane/Bent Twig will be upgraded with a change in the configuration of the entrances into Lots G and H. After that work is complete, Clarke Lane/Bent Twig will be a permanent two-way street. USI News and Information Services will work to keep you informed about road closings, traffic pattern shifts, and other developments during the road construction project.
