Welcome Week activities begin August 28

As the start of another academic year approaches, so does an annual tradition at the University of Southern Indiana. This year’s Welcome Week events take place Thursday, August 28 through Wednesday, September 3. Welcome Week is coordinated through the Office of Student Development Programs. David Duvall, assistant director of Student Development Programs, said, “Welcome Week is a series of programs designed to help our new students meet new friends and get comfortable with their surroundings as they start their academic careers at USI. “Two and a half months of planning is involved in Welcome Week with a dozen departments working together.” There are a variety of events planned to introduce new students to the different opportunities available on campus. Students will be able to find their classes before school begins September 2, assist in the construction of a Habitat for Humanity home, meet current members of student organizations, attend free movies, catch the cross country and soccer teams in action, and be entertained by a hypnotist. Duvall said, “We’re really excited about our traditional events, such as Pete’s Pizza Party, the four hour long Eagle Extravaganza, and Labor Day at the Lake.” Pete’s Pizza Party -Friday, August 29, 6-7 p.m. -University Center, main floor -Students get a taste of the different pizza vendors who serve the USI campus. Eagle Extravaganza -Saturday, August 30, 7:30-11:30 p.m. -University Center -Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, Halo tournament, foosball, karaoke, pool, airbrush tattoos, indoor putt-putt golf course, Sign Shop to get a specialized street sign, and the video dance party.
