Deadlines nearing for nationally competitive scholarships
|
Deadlines for nationally competitive scholarships like the Goldwater, Rotary Ambassadorial, and Udall scholarships, occur in fall, typically October through December. Dr. Brian Posler, assistant provost, is encouraging students who are involved in undergraduate research and who have a high grade point average to apply for such national scholarships. Dr. Posler said, “More of USI’s best students should apply for national scholarships. Faculty mentors will help students prepare necessary credentials to compete successfully for such awards. We have tremendous talent on this campus, and the more students who apply for these scholarships and grants, the more success we will have. I encourage freshmen and sophomores to begin thinking about national scholarship prospects.” He added that in an effort to get more students to apply for these awards, nationally competitive scholarship posters will appear on USI hallways soon. Last year three USI students who considered such funding options for research and study opportunities received national awards. Resources at USI are available for prospective scholars through the web site at www.usi.edu/acaffrs/scholarships/. Each national scholarship has its own faculty mentor to help guide serious contenders through the application process.
