ROTC cadets earn top rankings
|
Two University of Southern Indiana Army ROTC cadets have ranked high on the Order of Merit List for the state of Indiana. A ranking defines which area of the Army a cadet will commission. Commissioning is the process in which cadets, once they graduate from college, become Army officers. Nick Tomes, a graduate student from Wadesville, placed first on the Order of Merit List, and Jonathan Robertson, Owensboro, placed second in the state. Tomes, who is earning a Master of Public Administration degree, is executive officer of the detachment, and Robertson, a physical education major, is cadet commander. Both will commission this year. Tomes will be in military intelligence and Robertson plans to fly helicopters. They were the top two of 42 cadets in Indiana. Each cadet is judged for the Order of Merit list based on academics, leadership, and physical fitness. The cadets attended a summer leadership camp at Fort Lewis, Washington, where they received an evaluation based on their performance at the camp. They also received evaluations at USI.
