Indiana’s sixth Health Education Center established in College of Nursing and Health Professions at USI
|
The Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (SWI-AHEC), the sixth health education center in Indiana since 2001, is a workforce development program to assure an adequate and diverse healthcare workforce in the future. The center is concerned with the development of future generations of health care professionals, accessibility of continuing education for health care professionals, and accessibility of health care for the underserved populations of SWI-AHEC’s service area. The center’s service area includes the counties of Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Knox, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. The center is located in the College of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Southern Indiana. Jennifer Craig, the program development specialist for SWI-AHEC, developed a network of individuals and agencies within the region to help identify and address workforce and health care needs. An advisory council will grow from that network. The inaugural meeting, held in early October, brought together partners within the region to determine direction and oversight of the center. Information about the center is online at http://health.usi.edu/swiahec/. |
