USI-GAGE survey targets downtown workers and residents
|
Those who live and work downtown have an important role in determining which college-level courses and training classes will be offered in the future at Innovation Pointe. The University of Southern Indiana and the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville (GAGE) have kicked off a comprehensive survey asking downtown residents and workers a series of questions related to educational goals, personal and professional development, and job training requirements. The results of the survey will guide USI and GAGE in formulating future class schedules that will best meet the needs of those working and living downtown. As GAGE’s education partner, USI has established a classroom and computer lab at Innovation Pointe, the GAGE-operated high-tech business incubator at 318 Main Street. USI started offering classes at Innovation Pointe this summer. Two versions of the survey have been developed – one targeting downtown residents and employees, and another created specifically for the decision-makers at downtown businesses and organizations (presidents, CEOs and human resource representatives). GAGE and USI are gathering responses from: • Those who own, operate, or manage businesses in downtown. • Those who lead or work for a non-profit or community organization in downtown. • Those who are employed at downtown companies. • Downtown residents. The survey area for residents has been expanded past the traditional definition of downtown to include those living in the 47708 and 47713 zip codes. • Those who work for city, county, state, or federal government offices downtown. The survey is available online at www.usi.edu/ipsurvey, and it is hoped that most responses can be gathered electronically. For those without personal Internet access, the USI computer lab at Innovation Pointe will be available for use in completing the survey from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, November 3 and noon to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 5. Paper copies of the survey also will be provided as needed, and the survey responses can be given by telephone by calling GAGE at 812/401-4243. The deadline for responding to the survey is November 14, and those participating will be eligible to win one of five downtown dining and shopping packages.
