Students will read This I Believe essays
|
Living Learning Community students will read their This I Believe essays during a symposium at 6 p.m. Monday, November 3, in Carter Hall in the University Center. Students in USI’s seven Living Learning Communities read the book This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women for the Bonding through Books program for freshmen. Students were asked to write a 350-500 word essay that tells a story about what they believe in a positive, personal manner. This I Believe also is Evansville’s One Book, One Community selection this year. Two finalists from each of the seven Living Learning Communities will read their essays and three winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. The finalists are Celeste Drew, Emily Gravenhorst, Erin Hampton, Jacob Atkinson, Jess Walters, Jordan Smith, Kimberly Pathman, Lauren Akin, Naomi Killham, Rachel Dausman, Teddy Clunie, and Tim Nellis. Judges are Ryan Reynolds ‘00, features editor for the Evansville Courier and Press; Allison Schafer, a USI cross country All-American; Tracy Zeller ‘89, a local businesswoman; Julie Kissinger, a librarian from Mt. Vernon; and Lynn Beavin, a Signature School student. For more information, contact Dr. Jeff A. Thomas, associate professor of teacher education, at 812/461-5224. |
