High School Media Day keynote: “Journalism in the 21st Century”

Evansville Courier & Press reporter Gavin Lesnick will discuss “Journalism in the 21st Century” as the keynote speaker for the University of Southern Indiana’s 17th annual High School Media Day on Friday, November 14. The public is invited to attend the keynote address, which will begin at 9 a.m. in Rice Library Room 0017. Media day, an event for high school journalists, also includes critiques, an awards luncheon, and a variety of workshops. Lesnick graduated from Indiana University, where he served as editor for the Indiana Daily Student. He was a reporting intern with the Gaithersburg, Maryland Gazette, the Knight Ridder/Tribune/Campus wire service, and The Indianapolis Star. Following his lecture, local media professionals and USI faculty will offer sessions on narrative storytelling, feature writing, journalism ethics and careers, sports writing, interviewing basics, digital audio and video editing, and other special interest topics. The event will conclude with the noon awards luncheon in Carter Hall in the University Center. The USI College of Liberal Arts Scripps Howard Center for Media Studies, Evansville Courier & Press, and Young Readers Services are co-sponsors of High School Media Day, involving hundreds of area high school students and their teachers.
