|
“Peace through Education” is the theme for this year’s International Education Week (November 17-21), and the highlight of the week’s activities will be a lecture by Lee Gordon, co-founder of the Hand in Hand Center for Jewish-Arab Education in Israel, a non-governmental organization working to create a network of integrated schools for Arab and Jewish children throughout the country. Hand in Hand has established four integrated schools in different regions of Israel, serving close to 1,000 Israeli Arab and Jewish children. All of the schools use a bilingual Hebrew-Arabic curriculum. A native of the U.S., Gordon lived in Israel for 18 years and received a master’s degree in social work from Hebrew University and graduated from the prestigious Mandel Institute’s School for Educational Leadership. He now lives in Portland, Oregon and served as executive director of American Friends of Hand in Hand, a non-profit organization he founded that supports the center’s work. He will present “Peace through Education” at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, in Forum II in the Wright Administration Building at USI.
