Gospel Explosion features award-winning KSU choir
The featured guest for the Multicultural Center’s 12th annual Gospel Explosion is the award-winning Kentucky State University Gospel Ensemble. Designed by Grace, USI’s gospel choir, Good Sheppard Assembly of God, and area youth also will perform at Gospel Explosion, to be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, November 22, in Forum in the Wright Administration Building. The event will be guest hosted by local gospel radio hosts the Rev. Harlan Taylor and the Rev. Lorinda Taylor of WEOA 1400 AM “The Pump.” Gospel Explosion is part of Religious Awareness Month on the THREADS (Teaching Human Respect and Encouraging Action Diversity Series) November calendar. THREADS is a campus-wide diversity initiative of the Multicultural Center to encourage intentional diversity programming throughout the USI community through a coordinated diversity calendar. The Kentucky State University Gospel Ensemble performs a diverse repertoire, including contemporary and traditional gospel along with spirituals and anthems. The choir has performed on numerous occasions for statewide special events including gubernatorial inaugurations, and with acclaimed gospel artists and nationally recognized leaders for events promoting social justice. The choir was selected as the grand prize winner of the 1998 Creme of Nature HerbaRich Gospel Choir Competition sponsored by Revlon Inc. They received new choir robes and traveled to New York City for a commercial recording session with Kurt Carr. For more information, call the USI Multicultural Center at 812/465-7188.
