Student media seek student organizations to volunteer
|
USI’s student media will volunteer at the Evansville Rescue Mission’s soup kitchen and thrift store on Saturday, December 6, and are looking for other student organizations willing to help. Staff members of The Shield, 820 The Edge, and Access USI will serve breakfast and dinner at the soup kitchen in the Rescue Mission's shelter, 300 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and also help out at its volunteer-operated Wear House thrift store at 2346 Washington Avenue. Fifteen volunteers are needed for each shift at the shelter. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Volunteers are needed to work in two-hour shifts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wear House, where students also may donate clothing and shoes. Seth Grundhoefer, managing editor of The Shield, said, “With the cold days of winter approaching, it is imperative for student organizations to reach out to the community, donate time, and help those in need.” To schedule a time to volunteer, contact The Shield at shield@usi.edu, 812/465-1645, or 812/464-1870.
