USI College of Business offers free symposium for area businesses
|
In the spirit of the third annual National Entrepreneurship Week (NEW), a celebration of the heritage of entrepreneurship in America, the USI College of Business in partnership with USI Extended Services and the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville (GAGE) is offering a free half-day symposium, “Creatively Harnessing the Power of Technology for Enterprise,” from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Thursday, February 26, in Carter Hall in the University Center at USI. The symposium is free and open to the public, but will be of particular interest to area business owners and entrepreneurs. The symposium begins with the first seminar in the 2009 GAGE-Crane Tech Transfer Showcase series, made possible through a partnership between The Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville (GAGE) and Crane Naval Weapons Center (NAVSEA). The Tech Transfer Showcase is the first step in making Crane’s scientific capabilities, technology, and patent portfolio available to area businesses. Through relationships with USI and the Southwest Indiana WIRED, the series of eight seminars will be presented this year to inform regional businesses of these opportunities. Reggie Joslin, deputy for small business at Crane, will present “How to do Business with Crane.” John Dement, of the Technology Engagement Office at Crane, will discuss “Matching Businesses with the Appropriate Part of Crane,” and Joe Wallace, president and CEO of GAGE, will talk about “Business Opportunities through Technology Transfer.” The symposium continues with topical sessions offered by the USI College of Business focused on entrepreneurship, idea uniqueness, and innovation. Mark Long, president of Long Performance Advisors, Inc., will present “Driving Innovation by Utilizing Technology.” Tracy Zeller, a USI alumna and owner of Tracy Zeller Enterprises, will discuss “Entrepreneurship in Times of Economic Uncertainty,” and Dr. Mary Ann Shifflet, USI instructor in Economics, will talk about “Patent Searching Tools and Techniques.” There is no charge to attend the symposium, but advance registration is required. Program details, the complete schedule, and registration are available online, or call 812/464-1989 or 800/467-8600 to register.
