University of Southern Indiana students Raul Ramirez, a pre-medicine major, and Claire Robison, a nursing major, are this year’s Homecoming king and queen. The couple was crowned during halftime of the men’s basketball game on Saturday, February 7, 2009.

Ramirez is a junior studying Spanish and biology with plans to attend medical school. He holds the Lewis and Anne Harpole Presidential Scholarship and is the first Hispanic to be selected as Homecoming king. Ramirez has been involved with Student Government Association, Student Ambassadors, the Honors Program, Pre-Professional Health Club, and Model United Nations. Along with his involvement in his organizations, he also enjoys volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, ECHO Community Health Center, and the Tri-State Science and Engineering Fair. He served as the student representative on the Presidential Search committee to select USI’s third president. He is a graduate of Wood Memorial High School in Oakland City, Indiana.

The queen is Claire Robison, a senior who hails from the College of Nursing and Health Professions. She has been a resident assistant in Housing and active in AMIGOs, an orientation leadership program; Student Ambassadors; Colleges Against Cancer; Association of Nursing Students; Activities Programming Board; and Women's Choir. She chaired the Homecoming events in 2008. Robison volunteers with Relay for Life, Solarbron Pointe Retirement Community, and assists with organizing health education for low income families in Evansville and delivering gifts to Evansville state hospital residents. She is from Newburgh.

The two students are chosen by student vote, scores from interviews by USI administrators, and individual academic records. Activities Programming Board and the Office of Student Development sponsored the event.
