Social workers to gather for annual spring festival
|
Social workers from throughout the region are expected to attend the USI Department of Social Work’s 7th Annual Spring Social Work Festival on Friday, March 6, in Carter Hall in the University Center. The theme is “Social Work: Purpose and Possibility.” Activities will include morning and afternoon breakout sessions; luncheon and recognition awards; social service agencies exhibit tables; and networking opportunities. Continuing education hours will be offered. The festival, which began as a spring event to celebrate National Professional Social Work Month, is designed for alumni, practitioners, students, and others to meet and greet one another and reconnect with former classmates and colleagues. Exhibit tables from community social service agencies will highlight services and networking opportunities. Breakout morning and afternoon workshops will provide opportunities to explore various dimensions of social work practice. There will be a variety of topics addressing issues on ethics and professional practice, attachment disorder in children, predicting sexually violent behavior in adolescents, financial social work, social work practice with persons living with HIV/AIDS, changing the quality of life for people living in nursing homes, identifying factors associated with suicide risk, type theory & Myers-Briggs type inventory, and grant writing. Recognition awards will be given to the NASW Region 8 social worker of the year and citizen of the year. Wendy Knipe Bredhold News & Information Services 812/461-5259 or wkbredhold@usi.edu |
