Friday Night in the Forum schedule revised
|
Three of the films scheduled to be screened as part of the spring 2009 Friday Night in the Forum film series are unavailable because the films' distributor has gone out of business. Thus, "The Valet," "My Winnipeg," and "Up and Down" will be replaced by "Be Kind Rewind," "Happy-Go-Lucky," and "The Fall." Friday Night in the Forum, USI's free public film series, features films shown in their original 35mm film and widescreen format. The series kicked off April 3 with "Alice's Restaurant." Here's the revised schedule: “Be Kind Rewind,” April 10 When a “loveable loser” unintentionally erases all the tapes in a video store where his best friend works, he devises a plan to satisfy the store's few loyal customers by re-creating and re-filming every movie that the customers decide to rent. “Diva,” April 17 This visually stunning French film, produced in 1981, is a thriller about passions – for opera, love, perfection, and the City of Lights. Subtitled. “Happy-Go-Lucky,” April 24 Poppy is a school teacher with an infectious laugh who brings a sense of optimism to every situation she encounters—but soon her ability to maintain her optimistic perspective is tested, and so, then, is her affect on the people she meets. “The Fall,” May 1 Languishing in a hospital, Roy begins to tell a story to a child patient which fuses characters from the hospital with personae in exotic lands. The child becomes so riveted by the story that she will do anything Roy asks to hear the next installment. Friday Night in the Forum is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and the Tri-State Cinema Society. Each film is shown at 7:30 p.m. in Forum I in the Wright Administration Building. Eric Braysmith, lecturer in Liberal Arts, will lead a discussion immediately following each film. For more information, contact Braysmith at 812/464-1740 or EBraysmi@usi.edu.
