Yes, I will attend Commencement
|
Graduates who plan to participate in the 2009 Commencement at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, but have not yet submitted a registration form can do so online today. The registration period has been extended to Monday, May 4, 2009. Over 1,500 students are eligible to participate in the ceremony. New this year, a large video screen will be located above the stage to project images of the Commencement speakers and each graduate as the diploma is presented. “We anticipate the screen will enhance the audience experience during the ceremony,” said CJ Regin, director of Special Events at USI. “It will offer a whole new dimension to seeing your spouse, son, daughter, or friend receive the college degree.” USI does not conduct Commencement rehearsals. Candidates for degrees are expected in Roberts Stadium lower level on May 10 by 1:30 p.m. attired in cap and gown with the tassel hanging from the right side of the mortarboard. Graduates will be arranged by disciplines and colleges and will receive information about the ceremony. The traditional cap and gown worn at Commencement reminds the audience that its wearer is a member of an ancient and venerable profession. Black is the traditional color for academic gowns. The bachelor’s gown is distinguished by its long, open sleeves; the master’s by its closed, slitted sleeves, the doctor’s by its full sleeves trimmed with bands of velvet, which may be black or a color denoting the field in which the degree was taken. Information about the ceremony is online at http://www.usi.edu/commencement/commencement.asp for convenience of graduates and the audience.
