National PE Teacher of the Year presents workshop at USI

The University of Southern Indiana’s Physical Education Department is hosting a workshop for elementary school (K-6) physical education teachers led by Roberta Sipe, the 2007 State, Midwest and National Physical Education Teacher of the Year, selected by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and the National Association of Sport and Physical Education. Physical education teachers from throughout the Tri-state area will attend the workshop, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 24, in the Physical Activities Center (PAC), Room 209. Sipe will present on a variety of topics, including her specialty, childhood obesity. She has been in education for 25 years and is currently an elementary teacher at Rosa Parks-Edison Elementary school in Indianapolis. She is passionate about teaching physical fitness and nutrition to young children and has collaborated with other teachers in developing school-wide curriculum integration projects.
