Harlaxton Gatehouse available for sabbatical rentals

The historic 1835 Anthony Salvin Gatehouse at Harlaxton Manor in England has been refurbished and is available for short term sabbatical rentals of one month to one year. This unique space, which has been called a “miniature castle” in its own right, is part of an active American college with full infrastructure and amenities. The Gatehouse is completely furnished. It contains two one bedroom apartments, one on long-term lease and the other available to individuals. The available flat is suitable for a single person or a couple and contains a kitchen/dining area, bedroom and separate bathroom, and a top floor living room overlooking Harlaxton Manor itself. It is equipped with a new kitchen, washer/dryer, fireplace, broadband internet, television, and a private outdoor terrace. The Gatehouse is a listed historic property, and a strict no smoking policy must therefore be observed. Residents may, as part of their rental, participate in the full life of Harlaxton College, the British campus of the University of Evansville, located in 153-room Harlaxton Manor just down the lane. USI is one of Harlaxton’s 13 partner colleges. This includes use of a small and functional library, computer resource facilities, the Sports Hall fitness center, university classes, the Senior Common Room (a kind of faculty club room, elegantly book lined and very conducive to writing and study), as well as participation in College events—lectures, concerts, and cultural programs. Residents in the Gatehouse are Members of the College with all privileges. A meal plan is available at extra cost in the College Refectory. The small College Pub is available in the main manor house, and a very nice country pub/ restaurant is within easy walking distance up the lane and just outside the main gates. Residents can have the rare and very satisfying experience of living in a classic English village - beautiful and historic Harlaxton Village - with the ancient market town of Grantham (home of Isaac Newton and Maggie Thatcher) just three miles away. Grantham provides a rail and bus hub for all of Britain and Europe, and Nottingham East Midlands Airport is an hour away. The Gatehouse is one hour by train from London and its universities and libraries, including the British Library (which holds all British books in print and is just five minutes from London King’s Cross Station, the London terminal for trains from Harlaxton/Grantham). The University of London is a ten-minute walk from London King’s Cross. In addition, the Gatehouse is just 30 miles from the University of Leicester, 40 miles from the University of Nottingham, 40 from the University of Lincoln, 75 from Cambridge, and 85 from Oxford.
