"Surgery and Medicine in the Medieval Period" is topic of final Medieval forum
|
All USI students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend the final Medieval Studies Forum lecture of the 2008-2009 academic year. Chris Keegan, chair of the Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting programs at Vincennes University, will present "Surgery and Medicine in the Medieval Period" from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in Room 1016 in the Liberal Arts Center. Keegan will look at how medical and surgical practices developed and were carried on in the medieval period. She will discuss barber-surgeons, conditions of the time, and warfare’s contribution to evolving medical practices in medieval Europe. Keegan also will explain how, in the East, progress in medicine continued under different circumstances. Finally, she will describe how these practices in the Middle Ages set the stage for post-medieval innovations. The Scavone Awards in Medieval Manuscripts and Culture will be presented at 7 p.m. that evening in Kleymeyer Hall, in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center. The fall 2009 USI Medieval Studies Forum series will include presentations on medieval music, Dracula in the middle ages, medieval women, childhood in the middle ages, and more.
