SGA recognizes Kalvelage, Bradley, Parrent
|
Each year the Student Government Association recognizes the outstanding dedication of faculty, staff, and administrators of the University of Southern Indiana by presenting the Faculty, Staff, and Administrator of the Year Awards. Recipients of the Faculty, Staff and Administrator of the Year Awards are people who go out of their way to help students, contributing to the positive atmosphere at USI. The 2008-2009 Faculty, Staff, and Administrator awards went to: Faculty Member of the Year Award: Barbara Kalvelage, instructor in biology. In presenting the award, Amy Beard, 2008-2009 SGA president, said, “She truly has a passion for biology, and puts effort and enthusiasm into every lecture and laboratory. She has an enormous amount of energy that helps students to stay focused and interested during each class.” Staff Member of the Year Award: Donna Bradley, a member of the Food Services staff who works at Sub Connection. Beard said, “She takes the time to ask each student how his or her day is going and waits for a reply. She does her job efficiently, exuberantly, and with a constant positive outlook.” Administrator of the Year Award: Dr. Robert Parrent, vice president for Student Affairs. Beard described Parrent as “the epitome of student support. As the Vice-President for Student Affairs, this recipient does have an obligation to the students, but he goes above and beyond any expectations. He is one of the most visible administrators on campus, and attends as many University events as possible, which is indicative of his passion for the University and the students. The awards were presented last month at the Student Leadership Awards and Recognition Ceremony hosted by Student Development Programs. Any student on campus may nominate a faculty member, staff member, or administrator for the awards. Nominees are voted upon by the Student Government Association’s General Assembly. Also during the ceremony, Beard presented the University Key to 2009-2010 SGA president Bob Wolfley. The Passing of the University Key from one SGA president to the next has been a USI tradition since April 25, 1970.
