Paper-making class offered in New Harmony

Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 Students will learn the basics of making paper with pulp and a deckle, drying techniques, and embellishing with color, stencils, and natural materials. Hand papermaking is an eco-friendly alternative to using bleached industrially-made paper and can be used for artwork, stationary, or scrapbooking. Lorence is a calligrapher and papermaker. She has worked both as an educator and as an arts professional, carrying out specialized design projects for a variety of clients. She has led workshops and classes at Indiana University, Indiana State University, the Evansville Museum of Art, History, and Science, the Indianapolis Art League, and numerous other sites. She is a member of the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art, the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, and the New Harmony Artist's Guild. The first session will be an introduction to papermaking, the second session will be on sheet forming and embellishments, and the final session will be an open workshop. The registration fee for the class is $75 and includes materials. For more information and to register, contact USI Extended Services at 812/464-1989.
