Inspired by the Nintendo game Tetris, in which geometric forms made from cubes are directed by the player into a solid mass of blocks, Rodenberg found that though we often consider the cube or square a symbol for order they also can become disorderly and chaotic in the right environment. Blocks or cubes in number can be the foundation of structure, but as they deteriorate and fall down they become useless as a pile of rubble. The artist finds this disorder and chaos to be a metaphor for life. Rodenberg, a native of Evansville, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in studio art with an emphasis in woodworking from USI, where he was president of the Art Club from 2003-2005. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree in woodworking/craft material studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2007. He has exhibited at the Lexington Art League in Lexington, Kentucky Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio: the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts in Wilmington, Delaware and the Anderson Gallery in Richmond, Virginia. New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art is located at 506 Main Street in New Harmony, Indiana, and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
