New Harmony Theatre presents staged reading of "The Master Builder"
|
Amy Estes, New Harmony Theatre managing director, called Ibsen's "The Master Builder" a "provocative drama in which Ibsen explores the struggle of an artist balancing work and private life. Solness, an architect, has clawed his way to the top of his profession, but even at the top of his game, he constantly feels the pressure that younger architects will overtake his achievements. Then Hilda arrives to remind him of a promise he made to her as a girl, when he built a church in her small town. It is unclear whether this new inspiration will revitalize Solness, or be his demise. I am thrilled to be presenting this rarely-performed masterpiece." The reading will take place in the Mallette Studio Theatre in the Liberal Arts Center on campus at USI on Wednesday July 15, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased by calling the New Harmony Theatre box office at 1-877-NHT-SHOW or at the door beginning at 6:30 p.m. |
