USI engineering included in space exhibit at state fair

The exhibit traces the history of aeronautic Hoosiers and events dating back to 1859, with the nation's first airmail delivery by hot air balloon in Lafayette, and features an interactive Mars rover that can be operated by remote control, a space capsule simulator, a replica of the Hubble Telescope, a modular mission control board, artifacts from various space missions, balloon and rocket launches, and a NASA photo kiosk where fairgoers can photograph themselves "in space." The exhibit will be on view throughout the run of the fair, August 7-23, in the Grand Hall. On Friday, August 14, Dr. Glen Kissel, assistant professor of engineering, and USI students Ken Schnautz, Alex Schnautz, and Donald Phelps, will demonstrate Lego-robotics and show video and slides of the engineering program's high altitude balloon flights.
